To test your outgoing mail settings, use Outlook to send a message to your Google Mail address. You should see a test email from Microsoft Outlook in your inbox, confirming that your incoming mail settings are correct. You will now see your Apps at UMass Amherst Google Mail address listed in the Inbox. On the Add Account window, select Finish.Note: If you unchecked the Remember password box on the POP and IMAP Account Settings screen, you may be prompted up to 3 times to re-enter your Application Specific Password generated by Google. You will then be directed back to the Add Account window. When the Test Account Settings window indicates that all tests have completed successfully, click Close. Outlook will then test your account settings.You will return to the Add Account window. In the field next to Outgoing server (SMTP):, change the number from 25 to 587.Below Outgoing server (SMTP):, from the drop-down menu next to Use the following type of encrypted connection:, select TLS.The number shown in the field above will automatically change from 143 to 993. Select the Advanced tab, and under Server Port Numbers, below Incoming server (IMAP):, from the drop-down menu next to Use the following type of encrypted connection: select SSL.Select the Outgoing Server tab and check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) Requires Authentication and select the radio button next to Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.The Internet Email Settings window will appear. In the Password field, enter the Application Specific Password generated by Google.In the User Name: field, enter your IT Account NetID.
